Rimworld game freezes12/7/2023 ![]() ![]() But this PC has a 850W PSU and i haven't changed anything about it in 1.5 years. I'm not good at PCs but I've had a similar issue before with a 650W PSU that simply couldnt handle my PC as it was running skyrim with mods after I started using a lighted keyboard and started having some kind of voltage buildup. So there are these games that are installed on different disks that do and dont crash, there is no correlation, rimworld on C drive crashes as does Stellaris on D drive. These games are installed on different disks as well, one which comes from an older PC hard disk, and a SSD bought for this new PC. I also tested crusader kings 2 now which runs at even significantly higher CPU usage 70 % instead of the normal 30-50 % where my PC crashes for 40 minutes with no issue, and as I'm writing this rimworld is on passively in the background at a very low 9 % CPU rate, albeit at a screen/low usage where it has crashed my PC before after say maybe 1-2 hours (but that was before the issue became this severe). I did a few tests today, 2 hours of rimworld and stellaris until the crash, then 15 minutes next test for stellaris to crash/freeze (these 2 freezes were permanent and did not result in bluescreen). The sheer quantity of hours makes it statistically impossible for me to just get "lucky" and not crash during some games unless there are some significant differences in how these games run on the PC. Games like rimworld and stellaris crash even when idle and not running. Only very specific games will crash my PC, Stellaris and Rimworld have been 2 outliers compared to games like foxhole and league of legends which have crashed 0 times in hundreds of hours, even though stellaris won't run more than 2.5 hours maybe before a guaranteed crash, but by now, usually 15 minutes. It became more frequent (hardware indicating) and although maybe a month ago I was able to run stellaris for a few hours before crashing, but after a crash it would only crash faster. Issue started a couple of months ago but not with Stellaris (which I wasn't playing at all until a month or so ago), Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead stable Ellison version caused my PC to crash very rarely during longer sessions, I thought nothing of it. If the PC is overheating then all the thermometers are broken). Checked for heating issues (Im under 50 C for every part almost permanently, CK2 pushed CPU and motherboard up to 60 but stellaris generally sits at most at 50, storage under 40). ![]() Re-installed the games and still experiencing crashes. Updated drivers for windows, graphics card, disk drives. Now, I'm very convinced its a hardware issue as tons of thing I'm about to say are going to indicate, these can be issues on a lot of parts but for those with knowledge who could help me pin it down because this whole thing is a giant enigma to me. (also sometimes it has frozen in bluescreen at 0 "gathering information"). DPC watchdog violation, Machine check exception, and a "third" of just complete screen freezes that doesn't even result in a bluescreen. ![]()
